HISTORY
It all started with an idea
Derek Johnson II and Nicholas Killian both moved out from their small southern towns to Los Angeles years ago to start their careers in entertainment. While Nicholas went into acting and producing, Derek worked in writing and development.
By fate or by chance they ended up as roommates during the pandemic. After developing a personal project for years, the company Derek worked for attempted to steal his script and sell it as their own. After not signing over the copyright, he was unjustly fired.
Downtrodden, but not out, Derek and Nicholas went into business as Soy Sauce Productions. There, they developed several films, podcasts and a radio show.
However, with the changing state of the industry, it was clear that development was not what their clients really needed. They needed capital and more control of their own IPs (Intellectual Properties). At the same time, financial institutions needed a better way to underwrite trustworthy creatives.
Using their connections they made in their previous company and in other ventures, Prometheus Pictures was founded in 2024. It was founded on the idea that indie creators could offer studio level projects to their more targeted audience, given the resources.
The foundational story of Prometheus stealing fire from the gods to empower humanity, mirrors our guiding principles in the creation of film and television. Much like Prometheus, who defied the gods to bring fire to mankind, our company embraces the audacity and creativity necessary to bring illuminating narratives to the screen. This myth captures the essence of our mission: to challenge the status quo, innovate within the industry, and deliver content that enlightens, entertains, and inspires audiences worldwide.
Prometheus Pictures strives to bridge the gap between indie creators and the financial world to help projects come to life. Because it’s not SHOW SHOW or BUSINESS BUSINESS, it’s SHOW BUSINESS!
